How the Koch method works
Most people who try to learn Morse code from a chart end up counting dots and dashes, which stops working above a few words per minute. The Koch method avoids that: you hear characters at real speed from day one, starting with only K and M. Once you can copy random groups with 90% accuracy, one new character is added. Repeat until you know all 41.
Tips for practice
- Practise little and often — 10 to 15 minutes a day beats an hour once a week.
- Don't stop when you miss a character. Leave it out and keep listening.
- If it's too fast, lower the Farnsworth speed rather than the character speed.
- Use the tap trainer to practise sending, and check yourself with the translator.
