How to read the Morse code alphabet
Each letter is a short pattern of dots (short signals) and dashes (long signals, three times as long). Common letters are short: E is one dot, T is one dash. Rarer letters such as Q, Y and Z use four symbols. Between letters you leave a gap three dots long, and between words a gap of seven.
Memory words like "a-PART" for A are a fun way to start — short syllables are dots, stressed syllables are dashes. For real fluency, learn the sound of each letter. The Koch method trainer does exactly that, and the numbers chart covers 0–9.
